Goodbye For Now

There have been a lot of tears in the last few days. Friday was the last day of my internship with the Lehigh Valley Zoo's education department and it was one of the hardest goodbyes I've ever had to say. The past three months have been absolutely incredible and I could not be more thankful for every second of my time with the zoo. I could literally write a book on all of the incredible experiences I've had and everything I've learned but I thought it would be cool to share some of the numbers from my summer that I've kept track of!

Over the past 13 weeks at the zoo I have;

-Lead 28 zoo tours, 8 creek studies, and 7 nature hikes

-Helped host 3 Explore & Snore overnight programs

-Interacted with guests during 17 giraffe feeds and 18 penguin feeds
Repeating the same directions to hundreds of people in an hour might not be enjoyable but hanging with Murphy was always worth it!
-Traveled to 20 different outreaches

-Presented live animals in over 100 programs
Doug was always and will always be my favorite!
-Cleaned (A LOT) (For my zoo people, I did An Ed and BOP 26 times, ZWing 25 times, and penguins 20 times, but who's counting?)

-Cleaned, fed, and cared for the 50+ animals in the education department

-Handled and spoke about 33 different animals ranging from cockroaches and box turtles to groundhogs and parrots
Mona is the greatest groundhog in the world!
-Interacted with hundreds of zoo guests

-Commuted over 9,000 miles

-Learned literally more than I can even begin to express

-Worked with some of the greatest people I have ever known
Proud to be a part of this fantastic group of interns!
-Fulfilled a lifelong dream and realized that it was so much greater than I could have ever wished for

I am so so thankful for the experiences I have had this summer and I will never forget the wonderful memories made along the way. To all of the staff and supporters of the Lehigh Valley Zoo, especially the education department, THANK YOU. I am so grateful for each one of you and the time that we shared over the past few months. I don't know what the future holds for me but I promise I will definitely visit often, can't let Doug forget about me!
